Travel photography assignments

Travel photography assignments. It’s not every day you get offered your dream job. I was contacted by a bespoke travel agency to become a travel photographer. Anglo Indiago Travels – specialise in tailor made holidays to exotic travel destinations. Their main travel destinations are: India, Sri Lanka, The Maldives, Nepal Madagascar to mention a few.

Over the years I have had quite a few travel photography assignments. I have been to Dubai and Morocco as a professional event photographer. I have also travelled the world with a classical orchestra and I am sure my experience, photographing and travelling was what they were looking for when they got in touch. They  were looking to recruit a professional photographer to accompany their guests.

My main tasks would be to liase between the guests and the staff at the various locations, help the guests take great travel photos, and teach them photographic skills. I would also be in charge of creating an archive of photos of the various trips I was invited to be part of. Of course I accepted the offer as it is a combination of the things I love: travel, photography and adventure. Unfortunately due to the Covid 19 crisis, all travel has been put on temporary hold. Fortunately they are a well established company and we have maintained contact and have even tentatively planned a good few assignments to Madagascar for the end of the year and 2021.

What they have been doing in the meantime is educational webinars on some of their travel destination. I was fortunate enough to have been invited to one a few days ago. The webinar covered an exotic trip to Sri Lanka. After participating in the webinar, I was really impressed by how comprehensive their information about Sri Lanka had been, the beauty of this island and how professionally they had prepared the webinar. They do not offer a simple holiday package, they offer a “complete, comprehensive travel experience”. Here is an excerpt of the presentation:

Travel Photography Assignments -SRI LANKA – The Pearl of the Indian Ocean

A whole world in an Island

With a history spanning over 3,000 years, this small teardrop shaped island, formerly known as Ceylon, has a rich multicultural heritage interwoven with Buddhist and Hindu traditions. With areas of breathtaking natural beauty in its vastly varied landscape. Despite the fact that Sri Lanka is well known for its pristine and magical beaches, the island has far more to offer than only “sun, sand and sea”. Sri Lanka is loved by all kinds of travellers due to the varied experiences on offer.

Contrary to popular belief, there is no ideal season for someone who wants to discover Sri Lanka. It is an island for all seasons. Apart from the obvious, what makes Sri Lanka a worthwhile destination is the inescapable uniqueness of this blessed island.

Ceded as the island’s capital by the British Empire in 1815, Colombo, Sri Lanka’s largest city thrives with many points of interest. From vibrant alleys to ancient temples and bustling open-air markets.

Prepare your senses for overload, as the south is Sri Lanka in its most sensual and attractive form: a glorious coastline of dazzling curves of white sand on emerald forest hills. Yes, you will find the region a delight to explore, with each bend in the coastal road revealing another idyllic cove to investigate.

Galle, a completely captivating walled city steeped in historical interest, is arguably the cultural highlight of the south, but there is also some amazing Buddhist-inspired art in lonely caves and the sacred compound of Kataragama, a major pilgrimage city.

No matter what you are looking for, you will find it here. Surfers return year after year to find the perfect break. There is a chance to see blue whales rising through the waves and sea turtles crawling onto moonlit beaches. If you would like to see the whole presentation, you can read more here.

After watching the presentation, I realised that this was indeed potentially a dream job, and I could not wait to begin doing regular travel photography assignments with Anglo Indiago travels. As a professional event photographer I have been fortunate enough to have been on numerous travel photography assignments, but I believe this might be the beginning of an exciting adventure!

I will be regularly posting more articles on my blog, so feel free to check it out.
