A Beautiful Cotswolds Wedding: Capturing Timeless Memories in Every Style

There is something truly special about photographing weddings. No two couples are the same, no two venues are alike, and every wedding tells its own unique story. As a destination wedding photographer from Alicante, my latest assignment took me away from my home on the Costa Blanca and back to the beautiful English countryside for a memorable wedding in the Cotswolds.

Although I’m based in Alicante, I regularly travel for photography assignments, and this wedding was a wonderful reminder that great photography isn’t defined by location—it’s about capturing genuine moments wherever they happen.

The Cotswolds, with its rolling countryside, honey-coloured stone buildings and picturesque villages, provided a stunning backdrop for the day. Combined with beautiful summer sunshine and a relaxed atmosphere, it created the perfect setting for timeless wedding photography.

Photographing a Wedding Your Way

One of the things I enjoy most about wedding photography is tailoring my approach to every couple.

For this wedding, the bride and groom wanted something a little different. Rather than choosing a single editing style, they asked for a collection of images that blended vibrant colour photography with elegant black and white photographs.

I loved this idea.

Colour images captured the warmth of the summer day, the flowers, and the beautiful surroundings, while black and white photographs added a timeless, emotional quality that perfectly suited many of the quieter moments throughout the day.

The result was a wedding gallery with plenty of variety, allowing the couple to enjoy different moods and artistic styles without feeling restricted to one editing approach.

Working in Challenging Summer Conditions

Like much of Europe this year, the weather was exceptionally warm.

Bright sunshine always creates beautiful light, but it also presents challenges for photographers.

Harsh midday sunlight can produce:

• Strong shadows
• High contrast
• Squinting expressions
• Difficult exposure conditions

Years of experience photographing in the intense Mediterranean sunshine of southern Spain proved invaluable during this shoot.

Living and working as an Alicante destination wedding photographer means I regularly photograph in bright conditions, so adapting quickly to strong sunlight has become second nature.

By carefully selecting locations, using available shade, positioning the couple to take advantage of softer light, and planning the day’s schedule, we were able to create natural, flattering portraits throughout the wedding.

Sometimes difficult lighting simply encourages photographers to become more creative.

Capturing Genuine Moments

Some of my favourite photographs from the day weren’t posed at all.

They were the quiet moments between the couple.

A smile exchanged during the ceremony.

A laugh shared while walking through the gardens.

Family members enjoying the celebration together.

These are often the photographs that become the most treasured over time.

Technical perfection is important, but genuine emotion is what makes wedding photography memorable.

Why Variety Matters in Wedding Photography

Many photographers develop a signature editing style, which can work beautifully.

However, every wedding is different.

For this particular couple, combining colour and monochrome imagery created a more complete visual story.

Colour allowed the vibrant details of the day to shine—the flowers, decorations and countryside—while black and white images removed distractions and placed the focus firmly on emotion, expression and connection.

Providing both styles gave the couple a gallery that felt both contemporary and timeless.

Destination Weddings Don’t Have to Stay in One Country

Although I am based on the Costa Blanca in Spain, I regularly travel for photography assignments across the UK and Europe.

Many of my clients discover my work while searching for a professional wedding photographer in Alicante, only to realise that I am equally happy to travel for destination weddings elsewhere.
